* I DAMAGE TO WAREHOUSE NARROW ESCAPE OF FIREMEN «United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel Cct>yrtrat< SYDNEY, Sept. 14 i A fire among the oil and paint stocks of Messrs U. E. Crane and Sons’ ; warehouse, adjacent to Circular guay, last night, caused a heavy blanket of smoke in all parts of the city, which ; penetrated the tall buildings in the danger zone and gave nearly 100 flrei men a worrying time. Several men were overcome by smoke. The IITe originated in the basement, which had to be Hooded with water ! from dozens of hoses. Several firemen, wearing smoke f helmets, had to swim through the water to reach safety.
