PATRIOTIC SPIRIT
GENERAL APPEAL AWAITED WILLING CAMBRIDGE PEOPLE (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Wednesday Many offers of assistance, particularly from members of women’s organisations, have been received by the Mayor of Cambridge, Mr Edgar James, in connection with the state of emergency existing in New Zealand. Mr James said that while he appreciated the patriotic spirit which exists in the district, little could be done until information was received from higher authorities. There had been numerous requests for a public meeting to be held, added the Mayor. He considered that the time had not arrived l’Qr such action, but he suggested that individual organisations could get together and by resolution decide to co-uperate in the case of the Government appealing for assistance. “ A public meeting will be called as soon as information is received concerning the part that civilians are desired to take,” said Mr James. “Now that men are being enlisted a general appeal will probably be made throughout New Zealand. I am confident that Cambridge will do its full share.”
