A discussion on ways and means in times of emergency resulted in the secretary compiling a register of women free to co-operate with the Te Arch a branch of the Red Gross. There were two competitions which were judged by popular vote. That for vases of spring flowers, which decorated the tea table was -won by Mrs J Hansen, with Mrs Mackajy second. The second, an episode in one’s life, was won by Miss Ross. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mrs Voysey and the Misses C. and T„ Jackson. MANGAITI BRANCH Mrs 11. Strange presided at the monthly meeting ol’ the Mangaili branch ol the Women's Division, in the absence of Mrs Hooper. Mrs C. Wright gave a very interesting report on the provincial meeting held at Thames, and reported that Mangaitl was placed second in the rose bowl competition. The guessing competition was won by Mrs Wright, and that for the best howl of flowers by Mrs Patterson, with Mrs Hancock second. The competition for pickied onions went, to Mrs Hooper, second place going to Mrs W*. Manning. Mrs Mace and Mrs Patterson were the hostesses for the afternoon.

WOMEN’S DIVISION FAIR AT ELSTOW COMBINED FUNCTION A very successful fair was held in the Els Low Hall on Saturday by the Elstow branches of the Farmers’ Union and*the Women’s Division. Those in charge of the stalls were:—Meat, Messrs R. Chalton and D. Needham; produce, Messrs (J. Hines and W. Harvey; sweets, Mrs Stewart and Miss Cartwright; cakes, Mesdames D. Johnson and W. Cox; sewing, Mesdames Stembridge and Campbell; fish pond, Mesdames Rogers and Blackford; bash ’ems, Messrs Blackford and Nicol; nail driving, Messrs W. Horn and G. Wagstaff. The winners of competitions were as follows: —Mr A. Gemmell, Mr J. Martelli, Mrs E. Nicol, Mrs E. Nicol, Mr G. Brooke, Mrs W. Harvey, Mr E. Nicol.
