BRISK BEEF SALE

FAT SHEEP SLACKER MARKET AT FRANKTON PIGS IN' KEENER REQUEST | Although they were penned In considerably increased numbers, fat cattle at the Frankton sale yesterday were again keenly sought and were usually fully firm at recent advanced rates, soma of the cow beef, however, being slightly cheaper. A heavy entry of fat sheep was slightly slacker of sale, but fat pigs tended to firm. The fat cattle entry was the heaviest seen at the yards for some weeks and quality was well up to recent standards. A feature of the ox sale was that the top figure of £l7 15s was the highest realisation at the yards for over a year. Other heavy cattle made from £1 4 2s 6d to £lO ss. while modium-weigM descriptions were traded from £l2 7s fid to £l3 ss. Best again quoted from 39s fid to 41s per 1001 b., but some of yesterday's cattle would probably kill out dearer than the latter figure. Although top realisations were not as high as the previous week, heavy choice sorts making from £lt 15s to £l3 against £l3 to £l4 17s fid. values in the cow and heifer beef section were much the same and any difference In prices could be attributed to difference in weight and quality. Fat Jersey catfle comprised a greater proportion of the entry than of recent weeks, but these met with a ready market, althougli values were hardly on a par. Because of the bigger number sold under the hammer the market could be counted as fully suecesful as the market ruling at Frankton during trie last fortnight. Boner cattle were in brisk demand anrl were fully firm. Poorer Quality Sheep For the first time for several weeks fat sheep did not show an advance, the market on the whole bMng a shade easier in some cases, particularly for inferior ewes. Apart from the fact that the penning was an extra heavy one, the quality throughout was not up to the standard of recent weeks and this was probably the main reason for the less favourable realisations. In many cases quotations did not show much variation, but the toppriced sorts did not comprise such a large proportion of the entry. Best wethers were traded from 30s 9d to 36s 9d against 32s to 37s last week, while extra prime ewes were cleared from 24s to 28s 9d, in comparison with 2 5s to 295, comparatively few lines of ewes, however, making above 255. Hoggets met with a good *ale and values showed little variation. The biggest entry of fat pigs since last summer met with an animated sale from a larger bench of buyers and values changed in vendors' favour. Porkers, particularly, were sought and were quoted from ifis lo 05s against 45s to 635, while baconers were quoted unchanged from 60s to 8 4s. Stores were usually dearer. orlce Summary The following table is a summary of prices realised for fat stock at the Frankton yards during the past fortnight:— BEEF (per 100 lb.)
