STOCK TRADE PERSONALITY

Associated with the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company Limited, for the past 10 years, Mr J. L. Syms is now In charge of the pedigree stock department of the company. He was formerly with Messrs Buckle*!# and Sons at Auckland.. Mr sy/ns will be one of the auctioneers to rostrum afcyb:e Waikato Combined • Breeders’ Association’s bull fair at Claudelands next week.

Slight Setback For Sheep Fat sheep received a slight setback at the Frankton yards yesterday, but faking into consideration the number forward and the poorer quality of the entries in comparison with the previous week little significance can perhaps be attached to yesterday’s quieter market. Top quotations in many cases showed little change, but the increased number of inferior sheep was rather a drag on the market and probably affected the prices for better sheep. Ewes suffered more by the slight falling off in interest than did wethers, comparatively few lines making above 255, but it was the poorer quality o-f the entries that was mainly to blame. While it is difficult to forecast, it is quite probable that next week's market will more than make up for yesterday's slight reverse, provided, of course, that, the entry i§ an average one and the quality is well up to standard. Sharper Tone For Pigs Competition from butter-milk contractors stimulated inquiry in the fat pig section at the central yards yesterday and prices showed an improvement. Vendors were rather fortunate in the fact that there was increased competition available as the entry was the langest for some considerable time and the usual bench of buyers seen at the yards during the past few weeks would probably not have been able to cope with it. Stores also were de-arer and the keen competition of buyers was an indication of a rapid improvement in dairying production.
