GOSSIP FROM ALL PARTS The first race at Avondale on Saturday is set down to start at 11.45. Rider For Tidewaiter The Te Awamutu horseman, C. G. GouJsbro, has been engaged to ride Tidewaiter in the Avondale Cup. A Busy Centre Takanini is a busy training centre at present and no less than 13 maidens from this track appear in the field for the Trial Plate at Avondale on Saturday. Mia Acrea Fit Mia Acrea is to contest the Ivingsland Hurdles at Avondale this week and as he is a particularly fit gelding just now and has been working in solid style he should make a forward showing. Miss Valerie Miss Valerie, who shaped prominently in several of her engagements last season, has wintered well and a line through the recent quality of her work points to her winning a stake or two in the months ahead. Hunter’s Rose The latest track work O'f Hunter’s Rose indicates that she is not far from her best and she will probably be seen out on the second day at Avondale, when her running will be the subject of interest. Youngster Gelded The two-year-old colt by Foxbridge from Comedienne, and therefore a half-brother to Star Artist, has been gelded. An attractive-looking juvenile he takes the eye as a promising contender for two-year-old events this term. Comedienne, by the way, is at present visiting Beau Pere in Australia. Will Take Beating Nothing has been working better Takanini than Clen Connell and he should take a power of beating in the Trial Plate at Avondale this week. Yesterday his figures for five furlongs were the best recorded on the tracks at Takanini for some time and were indicative of his forward condition. Gamos at Avondale Gamos indicated an early return to the winning lists by a meritorious third in a division of the Jervois Handicap at Ellerslie last month and as he has since been hitting out freely in his work he will have to be reckoned with in the Swanson Handicap in which he is handily placed with 7.13. Condition of Tutor H. Gray has the jumper Tutor in forward fettle for racing at the Avondale fixture and he should possess prospects in the Kingsland Hurdles on Saturday. Racing at Trentham and Riccarton, where he gained minor placings, has served to season him and he should soon be seen to advantage. Gay Movie Gay Movie has done well since competing at the Pakuranga Hunt last month and as she has been doing everything required of her she should strip well for racing over the weekend. On Saturday she is to contest the Trial Plate and will not lack a following on the machines. R. W. McTavish for Melbourne The Auckland horseman, R. W. McTavish, intends leaving for Melbourne shortly where he has the offer of some good rides. While on holiday in Australia overtures to ride there were made to McTavish and it is his intention to follow his calling in Melbourne for the time being. In Familiar Colours The familiar colours of Mr L. R. Nelson, for Whom Malagigi was a remunerative proposition, will be seen out at Avondale on Saturday when a maiden representative, 'High Grown (Tea Tray—Black Eyed Sue), will contest the Trial Plate. •!Ie has been working well but may lack racing experience. Future Looks Bright One of the most improved horses in work at Ellerslie is Aero King, who lias furnished into a solid type. He I is getting through a sound preparation, but has not been asked to do any fast galloping. However, he is well forward and will not need much fast work to fit him for racing. Towards the end of last season Aero King put up several fine performances, and there is no reason why he should not reveal better form as a five-year-old during the present term. An Improved Hack Right Royal continues to hit out with plenty of freedom in his track work and has never been better than he is at the present time. He is due to make his next appearance at the Avondale meeting, where he will contest the Swanson Handicap. Right Royal ran a fine race over that distance when he beat all but The Cardinal at the Pakuranga meeting, and he will have plenty of friends the next time he goes to the post. Making Progress The two-year-old half-brother by the Australian sire Hall Mark to Whirling in the A. J. Julian establishment is making good progress ami should be ready for racing before long. When the colt’s dam, Legality,. was sent to Australia to visit Heroic sin*, missed to that sire and it was then decided to her to Hall Mark pronto returning to the Dominion. The result, which may prove a happy one, is a fine upstanding individual, who bpars a close resemblance to his relative.

Caishot Schooled Calshot wa6 schooled over one hurdle at headquarters yesterday but ho did not appear to relish his work and just managed to scramble over. However, he went alone and may do better as he gains confidence in company. h 6 h as furnished into a solid looking customer and J. F. Tutchen can be relied upon to get the best out of him in the jumping department. Brother to Round Up Among the acceptances for the Trial Plate at Avondale is Sunlona, a fullbrother to that good performer Round LJp, who has been shaping well in his preparation for racing ahead. He is said to bear a close resemblance to his relative, being similarly marked, and when stretched out in his work it is hard to distinguisli the difference. The Dozer Improved The Dozer has been working in attractive fashion on the tracks at Takanini and he appeals as a prospect for early in the new term. Yesterday his was one of the best efforts in the semi-final gallops for the Avondale meeting and in view of his promising showing at the Pakuranga Hunt last month he will he assured of an optimistic following in the Trial Plate this week. Te Kawiti Among the maiden talent engaged on the first day at Avondale is the Night Raid—Queen March three-year-old, Te Kawiti, who looks improved in appearance as the result of racing at the Pakuranga Hunt. While he is engaged in the Trial Plate at Avondale this week Auckland reports suggest that he may not be. as forward 'as could be desired due to an interrupted preparation consequent on a ricked joint. TAKANINI HORSES GLEN CONNELL BRILLIANT FIVE FURLONGS IN 1.4 (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday The middle grass, on which the poles were 15ft. out, and the plough tracks were used Tor galloping at Takanini this morning, the going being good. Orelio. with the assistance of Full Hand over the last five, ran six rurlongs in 1.18. but Full Hand easily had his measure at the finish and. while the time was quite satisfactory, Orelio did not appear to go as well as usual. The best gallop seen for some time was that of Glen Connell, who covered the first two furlongs in 23 3-5 and went on to complete five in 1.4. He would only need to repeat this to take a lot or beating on Saturday. Sunola’s Solid Six Sunola was four lengths in front of Proud Fox. with Gladynev beaten off. at the six rurlongs post in 1.19, the last five taking 1.5. Sunola finished full of running and could hav§ done even better. Veritable ran five furlongs 1n 1.5 3-5, working well. He was assisted over the first half-mile by First Gold Money, this portion taking 51 3-ss. Grandom and The Dozer were sent from a barrier start, the former dropping out after two rurlongs in 24 3-5 and The Dozer carrying on to complete five furlongs In 1.6 1-5. He worked attractively. Queen City, Lovaals (McTavish) and Te Kawiti lert the barrier to an even start. Ivovaals was quickest to find her feet but Queen City had made up the leeway at the end or a furlong and finished in Front at the end of two furlongs in 25 2-ss. They were eased at the finish. To Kawiti dropping out soon arter the start. Kentucky and Payette were assisted Trom the barrier hy Miss Valerie and High Crown, the first-named pair carrying on to complete three rurlongs in 3 8 2-ss, while the other pair were taken back to the barrier for another Jump out. POSSIBLE DIVISION AVONDALE FLYING HANDICAP (Special 1o Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday If all Ihe 20 horses engaged in the Flying Handicap at the Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting on Saturday are starters, the race will be | run in two divisions. The stake will ihen he increased from £3OO to £4OO, the winner of each division to receive £l6O, second £25 and third £ls. However, with such a large field, it is probable that there will be one or two defections and it is unlikely that the divisions will be necessary. The divisions have been drawn provisionally and are as follows: In the event of the Trial Plate having to be run in two divisions, which appears likely, the added money will be increased from £2OO to £3OO, the winner of each division to receive £l2O, second £2O and third £lO.
