SEAMAN IN COURT
ONCE ON TORPEDOED SHIP REMAND ON DESERTION CHARGE (Special to Times) PALMERSTON N., Monday When a Greek seaman, Vassilies Tripanangostopoupos, aged 27. appeared in the Magistrate's Court it was alleged that at New Plymouth on May 20 he deserted from the steamer Adelfl Chandris and that he landed in New Zealand without a permit. He i was remanded to appear at Wellington I on September 13. bail being allowed in I £IOO. j It was stated by counsel that acj cused was on a British ship which was | torpedoed in Spanish waters and had i been held as a prisoner in Spain. lie had later gone to Britain where ho joined a Greek ship which came to New Zealand.
