DEBT-FREE MONEY

ASSIST IN TIME OF WAR SOCIAL CREDIT MOVEMENT “As public opinion in the Dominion can testify, our movement has for several years been warning the public lhat the inevitable result of the present financial system is war in all its beastliness, misery and futility,” said Mr R. G. Young, of Gordonton, presiding at the quarterly meeting of the northern division of the National Council of the Douglas Social Credit Movement held in Hamilton during the week-end. The meeting, which was representative of the Auckland Province, opened with the reading of an apology for absence from the Dominion president, Mr F. C. Jordan, of Auckland, who is on active service with the New Zealand Artillery. As president of the district council Mr Young was voted to the chair on the motion of the Auckland delegate. Continuing, Mr Young said, ‘‘Our prophecy has unfortunately been fulfilled. The Empire j y once again at war with Germany after barely 21 years since the termination of the last war that was ‘to make the world safe for democracy.’ Recognising as you do the utter futility of war, which does nothing to solve our problems but merely postpones them, I am sure I am expressing the feelings of all of you when I say that our movement will do all within its power to assist the Government in the difficulties which undoubtedly -will arise.” Remits Deferred A number of remits which had been set down for consideration was deferred and after some discussion the following resolution was carried unanimously: “That this meeting of the northern division of the National Council of the Douglas Social Credit Movement appreciates the present difficulties of the Government and suggests that the scientific use of the credit of the country debt free would materially assist, and the people would realise that their Government had exercised its privilege of creating and issuing money as its supreme prerogative.” Copies of the resolution are to he sent to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance. Beyond affirming the necessity for maintaining the headquarters and organisation of the movement the rest of the business before the council was adjourned sine die.
