SENSATIONAL FINISH

REPRESENTATIVE MATCH DECISION ON KICK AT GOAL (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Saturday The Rugby representative match in which Southland heat Auckland, 10—14 at Lden Park to-day had a sensational finish. With seven minutes to go there was a margin of three points only between the teams and two minutes before time Southland had drawn level with a try in a handy position. The result of the game depended upon the shot at goal. Wesney took this but missed. In the meantime Hull, one of Auckland's forwards, had received an injury and was being attended to by an ambulance man in the field of play on Southland’s side of half-way, Go or 7 0 yards from Auckland’s goal. Immediately the kick had missed the visitors’ captain, C. K. Saxton, drew the attention of the referee to the fact that there was a man (Hull) in front of the ball and so another kirk at goal was allowed. This time Wesney was successful and it meant a win Tor Southland by two points. The decision was hotly debated among Rugby followers arter the game. According to the rules all players in the team which has been scored against must retire behind the goal-line, or, in the case or injury, to the sideline. Hull certainly infringed the rule—unintentionally, or course—but the referee had no optiiyi when appealed to other than to allow another kick. Me was in error, however, in allowing the Aucklanders to charge on the second occasion, as it should have been a “no charge.” PEACE CUP WIN FOR MATAMATA PUKEKOHE BEATEN BY 31—6 (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Saturday Matamata won the last Peace Cup challenge match of the season today by defeating Pukekohe by 31—6.
