Copyright) (Received Sept. 9, 4 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 8 There has been an exchange of telegrams between the Prince Regent of Iraq, and King George. The Regent telegraphed:— “In the present grave international situation the duties of friendship and honourable discharge of our obligations make it incumbent (upon me to express to Your Majesty the unshakeable attachment of the Government and people alike to the letter and spirit of the alliance uniting us, and to assure you of our firm determination to do everything in our power in the same spirit to co-operate with our great ally until right, justice and lofty principles, to defend which you have entered the war, shall prevail.” The King’s Reply Replying, the King said: “The action of the Iraq Government is further proof, if proof were needed, of the sincere and lasting friendship between our two peoples. My Government much appreciates the encouragement which your message brings lo them in the task of resisting the forces of aggression, and I assure you that if ever the horrors of war wore to descend upon Iraq my Government would carry out its obligations in the same spirit of loyally and resolution.” UNITY OF EMPIRE 20,000,000 LOYAL NIGERIANS MANY OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgrbl) LONDON, Sept. 9 According to information released by the Ministry of Information, Persian Gulf chief rulers have sent inspiring messages of support to the King. The Sultan of Oman Muscat, the Sheik of Bahrein, an independent Arab State, the Sheik of Koweit and the Sheik of Dabai believe in the justice of the British cause, and offer their services and resources. The devoted loyalty of 20,000,000 Nigerians and their determination to do all they can to aid the British Government are being expressed in spontaneous messages from chiefs and communities of people all over the country. The Syria Leibanese community, many of whom come from the French mandated territory of Syria, are among those who have offered every possible assistance. It is reported from Malta that there have been many offers to join auxiliary services, and that women arc proving particularly keen volunteers. In Barbados the reasons for England answer to the challenge of the Nazi rulers are thoroughly understood, and in Zanzibar the population is solidly with the British Government. A leading Cairo newspaper, A 1 Jehad, strongly supports the declaration of loyalty made by groups of Arab notables in Jaffa to the acting-District Commissioner. The colony of Ceylon has signified its wholeheated support of Britain’s prosecution of the war by resolution of the State Council. The Legislative Council of Tanganyika conveyed on behalf of the whole people of the territory readiness to give wholehearted service to Britain's war.
