COLTB DEFEATED WIN FOR OLD BOYS There was little between Colts and Old Boys on Saturday but the younger team could not repeat its performance against Technical in the first match lor tlie trophy, old Boys kept up a steady attack during the early stages of the encounter and it, was not until tlie end of the game that Colts rallied and provided its opponents with really solid opposition. The game ended with Old Boys victorious by one goal | to nil. The teams were : Old Boys.—Sutherland, BroacTbent, | Morris. White, McKinnon. Olive. Jaeka, West, Craig, Davies, Chard. Colts.—O'Hara, Mackley, Clar*. Bockell, Harvey, Hansen, Curteis, Me- i Kibbin, Perrett, Bogue, Wycherley. ■ Colts was the first to attack and in some very open hockey the ball was hit about brilliantly. Old Boys soon took charge and the team, with short hits, took play into Colts territory. Play was centred there for some little time but the solki tactics of the defenders prevented Old Boys from 1 breaking through. At half-time there was no score although Old Boys had a little better of the game. Early in the second session Old Boys scored. The forwards worked downfield and a tussle in front of the goal saw West secure to send the ball home with'a hard shot. Continuing to atlack it looked ns if Old /Soys wV'ld have n 0 difficulty in notching another point, but the do- ! fence held. When the final whistle sounded Colts was still attacking but had failed to goal, j TEOHNIOAL WINS MARGIN OVER KAIPAKI After being easily defeated by Colts in the first match for the Hooper Cup. i Old Technicals staged a recovery on J Saturday and beat Kaipaki by three I goals to one. The game was hard- I fought and was not as one-sided as j the score might indicate. Kaipaki : made many invasions of Technical j territory and on several occasions was close to scoring. However, the strong Technical defence was the main factor in bringing the match to a conclusion in its favour. The teams were:— Kaipaki.—Srnillie, F. Boyd. Good- j win. Farrell, A. Boyd. McCarthy. G. 'Boyd, Richardson, Bones, Graham, Ganiev. Old Technicals. Puck, Clarke, McKinnon. Snell, Jenkins. Hunter, Forster, Floyd, Powdrill, Hoff, Sage. Sage was responsible for all three Technical goals, his fine following up and attacking tactics earning him that success. He received every assistance from his forwards and they fed the flanks to great advantage, allowing Sage every opportunity. The backs made several good openings, but they were well watched and the bulk of the work was left to ihe front division. Graham was the scorer for Kaipaki. He made a brilliant run down the side, and, after a forward scramble had failed to bring forth a goal, he secured and shot the hall home.
