QUOTA LIFTED

DOMINION FROZEN MEAT BRITISH STATE OF WAR (Special to Times) CHRISTCHURCH Saturday Great Britain has lifted the quota on New Zealand frozen meat, said Mr T. A. Duncan, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, confirming a report that the restrictions had been removed, thus releasing a million carcases of ewe and wether mutton for export. This total represents excess killings from last season. The board will discuss arrangements fo” shipping space. Beef will also be exported, but in future it must be frozen, not chilled. “The quota automatically went with the declaration by England of a state of war,” said Mr Duncan, in a newspaper statement. “It will not give immediate relief to the meat industry unless shipping can be increased.” Arrangements for increased shipping had to be made several months ahead, said Mr Duncan. The Government bad been dealing direct with British interests on the question of freights for shipping. “I am not in a position to say much about it, because we are in the dark at present on some questions.” replied Mr Duncan when he was asked if it were correct to say that all the ew-e mutton held over from last season’s killing And now in cold storage would find a market in Britain.
