DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENT RESIGNATION OF LEADER QUESTION OF A COALITION (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copvrlsrh:) CANBERRA, Sept. 9 There was a dramatic political development last night when, following 2 breakdown of long negotiations for the formation of a Coalition Ministry between the United Australia and Country parties, Sir Earle Page announced his intention of resigning the leadership of the Country Party. lie explained that lie was no longer prepared to stand in the way of coalition. A deadlock was reached when the Prime Minister, Mr R. G. Menzies declined to agree to a basis which would not permit him to select his own Ministers.
