A first-class battleship costs £317,000 a year to run, including pay, clothing. repairs, and victualling. Even the smaller submarines cost us £27,000 a year each. Germany has placed orders in Great Britain for 380.000 barrclls of herrings in the season now beginning, an increase of 20,000 barrels on last year.
