NONAGENARIAN DEAD
MISS C. R. DUNCAN, FOXTON (By Telegraph.—Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, Saturday The death has occurred of Miss Christina Robina Duncan, aged 95, the oldest resident of Foxton. Miss Duncan was a daughter of a pioneer missionary, the first Presbyterian minister on this coast, the Rev. James Duncan. Miss Duncan wrote a number of poems, some of which were published. She lived ail her life in Foxton, on a property acquired by her father.
MR HOWARD KENWAY EARLY POVERTY BAY SETTLER (By Telegraph.—Press Association) GISBORNE, Saturday. The death occurred suddenly of Mr Howard Kenway, one of the best known settlers and public body men in Poverty bay, at the age of 76. He was a member of a well-known English family which became established in sheepfarming in New Zealand Mr Kenway was a pioneer of the Waimata district and acted as manager for the Kiore Sheepfarming Company. He served as chairman of the cook County Council and Cook Hospital Board and was an active member of other public and semi-public bodies. In the commercial field he was a director of the Gisborne Sheepfarmers’ Association. and his social activities found outlet as president of the Y.M.C.A. and an active member and past president of the Rangitira Savage Club. He was an ardent worker during the war and was for many years chairman of the citizens’ defence committee. He is survived by his widow.
