ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES FOOTBALL INCIDENT FARM HAND INJURED Mr Phillip Simmonds, aged 22, a farm hand employed by Mr G. A. Pierce, of Putaruru, received an injury to his head while playing football at Putaruru on Saturday. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital suffering from concussion, but his condition is not serious. SUDDEN FALL OF EARTH MEN INJURED IN CUTTING (Special to Times) TAURANGA, Saturday Two men were injured when they were caught in a sudden fall of earth on a cutting on which they were working on the highway on the western side of Katikati. Mr Alexander C. Wade received a fractured thigh and pelvis and Mr Sidney C. Snow, a fracture of the left arm. The fall occurred without warning, and the two men, who are Public Works Department employees, were caught knee-deep in the debris, being extricated, only with dillleully. After receiving medical attention the injured men were admitted to the Tauranga Hospital. COLLISION WITH TAXI MOTOR-CYCLISTS HURT (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Sunday In a collision between a motor-cycle and a taxi at the intersection of France and Randolph Streets, Newton, early on Saturday night, the rider and pillion rider of the motor-cycle were injured. The pillion rider, .Mr James Cosgrove, a labourer, aged 21, single, of 2 Baker Street, City, received concussion. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and his condition tonight is not serious. The rider, Mr William Henry Cameron, of 12 Kipling Avenue, Epsom, received abrasions. None of the occupants of the taxi was injured. FATAL INJURIES PEDESTRIAN KNOCKED DOWN (Special to Times) HASTINGS, Sunday Fatal injuries were received by a pedestrian, Mr William Matthews aged 65, of Omahu Road, Hastings, when he was knocked down by a motor-car at about 6 p.m. yesterday. He was taken to hospital and his condition later was reported to he slightly improved. With the assistance of his companions he was brought through three miles of rough, bush-clad country to a road and then taken to the Whangarei Hospital. A number of stitches was inserted in the wound, which, although deep, was not serious. PLAYED WITH SHOTGUN BOY’S SEVERE INJURIES WESTPORT, Sunday Severe injuries to the left arm were suffered by Raymond Learmouth, aged 13, of Denniston, through a shotgun discharging while he was playing with it at his home this afternoon.
