Stag Trophy Rugby Continues

OLD BOYS NOW IN THE LEAD

TAUPIRI SUFFER FIRST LOSS CITY STILL LN WINNING FORM W ith Old Boys and City still in winning form, Technical Old Boys gradually creeping up the ladder and Frankton giving the leaders a very close battle on Saturday, the Hamilton teams have a strong hand for the Stag Trophy this season. Four matches have now been played, with Old Boys and City (one match short) the only two who have not been defeated. The country sides, with the exception of Taupiri, have not done as well as expected so far but when the grounds are heavier and the ball more difficult to handle, they will come into their ownOn Saturday the standard of play was disappointing, generally speaking. With conditions ideal patrons looked forward to sparkling displays but it seemed as if the draw placed teams of fairly even strength together and the games were hard rather than bright. The lack of bright back play was disappointing after the many good matches seen. Old Boys were rather lucky in defeating the virile Frankton side but they were placed at the head of the table by Technical Old Boys’ defeat of Taupiri. City continued their winning way while Raglan, another new team, also gained another victory. Both Cambridge teams were defeated, while Te Awamutu won and Rovers were beaten. A clear lead has now been secured in the Stag Trophy championship and after four series of games the competition table read as follows :

Old Boys p. 4 W. 4 L. D. Pts. For 71 Pts. Agst. 26 Ch Pts 8 City 3 3 — — 29 10 6 Taupiri 4 3 1 — 70 25 6 Technical 4 3 1 — 64 33 6 Raglan 3 2 1 — 32 29 4 Te Awamutu 3 . 2 1 — 29 41 4 Rovers 4 1 3 — 23 55 2 United 4 1 3 — 36 76 2 Hautapu 4 — 4 — 18 44 0 Putaruru 3 — 3 — 20 38 0
