RUMOUR DENIED
PRIME MINISTER’S STATEMENT (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday “There is a rumour being put round that a certain person now 7 in New Zealand was sent by the British Government to Newfoundland when that country lost its right to self-govern-ment,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Savage, during an address on behalf of the Labour candidate for Christchurch South, Mr R. M. Macfarlane. “Mr Lyons is saying that that person is here for the same purpose,” said Mr Savage. A Voice: What is he here for, then? “He represents the Imperial Government,” replied Mr Savage, “and he Is nere to discuss matters with the Government in the same way as the British High Commissioners do in Canada and South Africa and other countries. He Is here for no other purpose. The people of this country still have the right to govern themselves, and they are going to govern themselves.”
