PAID TOO MUCH
“BETTER ACTOR IF POOR” SPENCER TRACY’S VIEWS Spencer Tracy, with his wife, arrived in England in the Queen Mary for a short holiday. He thinks film stars are paid too much. “I wish they didn't pay me £IOOO a week —I’d be a better actor if 1 was poor! he said. “I’m not kidding. All the best acting is done by hungry stars.” Told that millions of his adorers were more than satisfied with his acting, he retorted: “I haven’t got any adorers! Gee, I’d hate it if I thought women gol love-sick over me. No. I'm not modest —I mean it.” Tracy is accompanied by his wife who is content to be Mrs Tracy and wears no make-up. They were mobbed when they arrived at London and their train had to be shunted to a suburban station where there were no crowds.
