DISTURBANCE IN OFFICE OBSCENE LANGUAGE USED WELLINGTON OFFENDER FINED (B.v Telegraph.—press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday A disturbance in the office of the Social Security building yesterday resulted in the appearance before Mr W. F. Stilwell, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning of David James Cromie, aged 47, seaman, who pleaded guilty to charges of behaving in a threatening manner and using obscene language. He was convicted and fined £3, in default 14 days’ imprisonment, on one charge, and £l, in default seven days’ imprisonment, on the otthcr. It was stated that accused called at the Social Security office, apparently with some business to transact, at a time when he was under the influence of liquor. He was given some papers to fill in and told to return later. He became abusive and began to use obscene language. Eventually he picked up an inkwell and threw it at one of the clerks. The whole office was upset by his conduct. He continued to use bad language after he had been put out the office staff. It was a Really bad case, said the prosecution, snd he had a long list of previous convictions.

Defendant said he was insulted by a member of the staff and lost his temper.
