TOTAL CLEARANCE
PEDIGREE PIGS “LUCERNDALE" DISPERSAL SALE The annual sale of pedigree and grade pigs conducted by the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company. Limited, on behalf of Mr Fred. Discombe. of the "Lucernedale" Stud, was held on the farm yesterday. There was one of the largest attendances of buyers seen at a ptg sale for many years and bidding throughout, the sale was quite good, and practically a total clearance was effected. Four breeds, Rerkshtres. Large Blacks. Tamworths and Duroes were represented in the catalogue and the offering included many of Mr Dlscomhe’s foundation sows. Although some of these animals were carrying a little age they were competed for by buyers all over the North Island.
Thp star attractfop was the recentlyimported Large Rlaek boar. “Pakenham Whizbang” 4th. bred by Mr D. XV. P. Gough. F.dmonds. England. The pig was farrowed on January 5. 1937. and was a good specimen of the breed. Ridding started at 40 guineas and rapidly Increased until 99 guineas was reached, at which figure the animal was passed in to a Southern buying order, the vendor reserving the boar at 130 guineas. Berkshire Section In the Rerkshire section the top price of the sale was paid by the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company, as agents, for the imported Rerkshire sow. ‘‘Hawkesbury Excelsa” Ist. This animal was imported from the famous “Hawkesbury” Stud in New South Wales and was sold for 25 guineas. The imported Rerkshire boar “Glen Innis Boss”, of pure English blood also failed to reach the Vendor's reserve. Top price in the Large Black Sow section was obtained for “Lucerndale Rev” 3rd. and she was secured by Mr W. M. Wardrop. of Omokoroa, for 26 guineas, whilst Mr XV. McGill of N Te Awamutu secured “Lucerndale Lavish” 2nd. for 25 guineas. The Tamworth offering consisted chiefly of sows in farrow, for which steady competition was maintained at prices ranging from 94 to 11 gns. There was a particularly keen inquiry for Duroc pigs, both boars and sows being sought after and the pigs were distributed over a very wide area. A feature of the sale was the, very keen demand for grade sows and any animals showing quality and well forward in pig realised extremely satisfactory prices, and altogether the sale was one of the most successful held at “Lucernedale” for some years.
