New Stream-lined Entertainment
The movies foreswore their absolute dependence upon action several years ago and leaned upon a new device—sound- But the encroachment, lately, of too many voices has been noted by several of the more astute producers, among them Walter Wanger. The result, as seen in the most recent photoplays, is a happy blending of sound and action with the annotation, “pianissimo” for the dialogue and "fortissimo” for the motility. “Stagecoach 1 is an example of this new trend in stream-lined entertainment. Under the modern-minded direction of John Ford, “Stagecoach” reveals Itself upon the screen as the purest form of swift-paced action-drama. It has a cast of characters as vital as pulsebeats. John Wayne and Claire Trevor play the principal parts.
