Tom Brown in "Duke of West Point"

Tom Brown can tell you of the discomforts of having a broken neck, although he has never suffered such a misfortune in real life. Brown is now playing in “The Duke of West Point,” an Edward Small production for United Artists release, along with Louis Hayward, Joan Fontaine, Richard Carlson and Alan Curtis. The script required that his neck be broken in a practice game of ice hockey. Brown didn’t mind the heavy fall on the ice, which was painfully realistic. But he was quite uncomfortable when he faced the neck brace which Director Alfred E. Green told him he would have to wear in ensuring hospital scenes. Early next morning a doctor was summoned and the brace placed .on Brown’s neck. He then had to lie in bed for eight hours, going through scenes with other players in the picture. After the ordeal, his neck was so stiff he could hardly move it and had to call in a masseur before he felt in shape for the next day's work.
