BIG JUMPING CARNIVAL
TO-MORROW’S FINE FIELDS STRONG TE RAPA ENTRY THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By “Martian") The Winter meeting of the Auckland Racing Club will open to-morrow at Ellerslie when the principal attractions will be the Great Northern Hurdles and Cornwall Handicap, both of which have drawn large and wellbalanced fields. Throughout the programme Waikato stables are freely represented and indications are for racing of a highly interesting Betting will be on the win and place principle. Following are the fields with a review of the prospects:— 11.22 GREENLANE STEEPLECHASE Of £359; about i'i miles
Hanover has been racing successfully over hurdles of late but is also capable over country ami he will be assured of support. John Charles won impressively at the Manawatu meeting only recently and as that was . v his first appearance of the season J there is every reason to assume that he will improve further. In which case he appeals as one of the hardest to dispose of. Survey’s running will be the subject of considerable interest in view of the fact that he is strongly fancied for the big steeples on Monday and he is sure to command an optimistic following. Wasp made a fine showing among the hack and hunters here the first day and that winning performance of the King Lu mare would indicate that she will prove equal to a forward showing. Hells of Bow is a possibility, while other likely improvers include Car Leaf and Right Royal. The fancies may be— SURVOY JOHN CHARLES WASP 12.12 JERVOIB HANDICAP Or £500; T Tur. First Division €t lb «t It
The winning sequence of Rronwen at the Avondale meeting some six } weeks ago points to her making a ; bold showing. Raana disclosed pood form at Gisborne the other week and | High Delight, who has been shaping in improved style on the tracks, must ' be respected, while Midlands forward running at Te Rapa draws attention to his claims. Erlic -may be improved with rarinp here and the track work of Pasture points to her making early amends. Vaalso, Aero Queen and Bonnybelle are prospects, while* of the others the best would appear to be Tahiti. Maereana and Kakarere. The public may sum up for—
BRONWEN HIGH DELIGHT MIDLAND
For the purposes of this review it is assumed that a divided race will be necessary, in which event the totalisator will be open only once, prior to the first division being run. May Song indicated an early return to form by her encouraging showing here and her ability to handle winter conditions will stand to her if rain intervenes. The Trimmer has been working well, while Spearford and Kaspian are also assured of support, especially the latter who won well over a mile here the first day. He will strip in great order for the meeting. Spinning Wheel is a likely improver, while further down are other likely sorts in Veritable, Trevace and Bronze Moth, all of whom have shown in recent weeks that they are entitled to respect. Of the others the best may be Yaalstar, Nordic Sonc and Fleetwind. The public may show preference for the credentials of— KASPIAN BRONZE MOTH TREVACE 1.2 PENROSE HURDLEB Of £350; 1| miles
The class is not strong and Loombination. who shaped like an improver at. Parma in March, will have to be conceded prospects. Knifrht of Australia will need only to jump correctly to make his presence felt, while the impressive success of King Musk at Pukekohe points to his being one of the hardest to dispose of. He won well at the Franklin meeting. Ureklaw, who went within a neck of King Musk at Pukekohe. will be meeting him on slightly better terms and is not without prospects of turning the tables. Cappy is an Improving Jumper with an excellent chance and Tutor will add to the interest. Little Briton, however, may bold tbe majority
safe. He has been working and schooling well and if rain intervenes , his prospects will be enhanced. Ellanui and Anagram read the pick of the remainder in a race in which there may be good support for — LITTLE BRITON KING MUSK UREKLAW 1.62 GREAT NORTHERN HURDLEB or £1500; 2* miles st lb Erlnatlon, Mrs A. Erination was having his first run for a spell when he contested the Hamilton 'Hurdles here and he should be benefited by the race. The form ol' Esteem at Te Rapa was soich to suggest early improvement and he will be assured of a firm following. The winning form of Charade at the Manawatu meeting recently draws attention to the claims of the Greenntcadows representative and he promises to be one of the hardest to dispose of. Mio Lume has shown in the past his partiality for Ellerslie and he has been working well. En Tour has prospects, while John Charles, another of
H. S. Green's Greenmeadows stable, won over country at Awapuni recently in his first appearance of the season. Royal Dance and Agog, on 9.10 and 9.8 respectively, make st.ronp: appeal and a line through the running of the pair at the recent Waikato meeting, suggests they will prove equal to solid efforts to-morrow. Agog finished on the first day to win the Waikato Hurdles (12 miles), while Royal Dance won just as attractively over the longer distance the second day. Further down one of the likeliest of the lightweights would appear to be Inness Lad. who showed promise in his racing here and who has since been shaping well on the tracks at headquarters. Pyrenees and Gascyne appeal most of the others and a great betting race may see most in demand — AGOG ROYAL DANCE CHARADE
The chief fiat event bears a very open aspect and the stablemates Valamito and Round Up are solid performers entitled to every consideration. King Rey, fit and well, will have to be considered and Cheval de Volee will be assured of his measure of support. Gold Vaals and Balinavar are a useful pair over the distance but Galilee, a model of consistency in recent months, makes great appeal and. espeically if the going is on the holding side, she will be dangerous with 8.1. Te Rapa stable will be represented by Master Brierly and Du Maurier and on the way the former has been working on the tracks of late he will have to be taken into consideration. Royal Appellant appears to have derived benefit from racing here and. *n company with Valmint. has been hittiner out in dashing style in his preparation for the meeting. Valmint. second in the last two Cornwalls. is strongly fancied in certain quarters again this year and hia track work suggests he
is in forward condition. Tooley Street would he assisted by a holding track. Gay Rose has advanced In favour following her success in the President’s Handicap here, while Royevrus’ latest form entitles him to consideration. Of the balance the best may be Black Musk, Gay Rebel and Inver. In a great betting race the public may prefer the credentials of— VALMINT GALILEE ROYEVRUS 3.20 HUNT CLUB HURDLES HANDICAP Of £350; 2 miles at Lb et It Kittle ... 9 7 Windsor Lass 9 u British Bridegroom . 9 0 Sovereign 9 7 Tupeotu ... 9 0 Green Label . 9 0 The class is not strong and Kittle, fit and well, would possess prospects, but she was injured slightly during the week and is under a cloud. British Sovereign has been shaping pleasingly in his preparation and promises to strip a fit horse for to-morrow. Hu should account for Green Label, who, however, must be conceded a .jumper's chance. Windsor Lass and Tupeotu, who showed promise at Pukekohe, will add interest to a race in which the favourites may he— Bill TISH S OVE R EIGN WINDSOR LASS 4.7 MEMBERS’ HANDICAP Of £400; 6 fur
Te Rapa stables are freely represented ki the sprint in Whirling, Maori Song, Royal Bachelor, Young Paddon, Prince Acre and Orwere. Whirling may need the race but Maori Song, who is in winning fprm and who is bearing a bright appearance, makes slrong appeal and he looks to be one of the hardest to dispose of. Royal Bachelor, Yeung Paddon, improved with racing here, and Prince Acre are all entitled to consideration and will claim their measure of support. Black Thread, a winner four times in his last five starts, should make a bold showing and, further down, Marie’s Acre and Erndale must be respected. Bachelor King, Aero King, Pocket Venus and Anion will add to the interest of the race, while of the others the pick may be Lady Meath and Mon Acre. in a spirited betting race preference may be shown for the credentials of— PRINCE ACRE BLACK THREAD ERNDALE
