COMPETITIONS CONTINUED KEEN INTEREBT SHOWN HIGH STANDARD PREVAILS Keen interest was again taken In the annual competitions in the Waikato Winter Show concert chamber yesterday and last evening when elocution, operatic and national dancing classes were held. A fairly high standard prevailed and the items were appreciatively received. Following are the results of yesterday's competitions:— Operatic Dancing Operatic solo, 14 years and over: Nancy Howell, 1. Character solo, 12 years and under: Goila Barrowman 1, Kyra Forsyth 2, Peter Mills 3. Tap dance, under 8 years: Diane Rhodes i, Colleen Campbell 2, Errice Mclntyre 3. Tap dance, under 10 years: Shirley Goldsbrough 1, Elaine North 2. Novice tap dance, under 14 years: Patty Allen 1, Nola Morriss 2, Coila Barrowman 3. Elocution Girls under 14 years, own selection: Pam Linder 1, Betty Blackie 2, Margaret Thomas 3. Lorna Bridges, Marie Prendergast and Lynette Webb were highly commended. Charcater recital for boys or girls under 14 years, own selection: Lynette Webb 1, Lorna Bridges 2, Eddie Smith 3. Women’s test recital: Miss Joan Prendegast 1, Miss Lily Bone 2. Men’s test recital: Mr C. J. Flay 1. Women’s impromptu speech, post entries: Mrs J. Ward Chapman 1, Miss Clive Henry 2. Girls under 16 years, own selection: Margaret Thomas 1. National Dancing V° Highland fling: Diane Rhodes 1, * Shirley Goldsbrough 2, Colleen Campbell 3. Sailor's hornpipe: Dawn Russell 1, Joyce Miller 2, Daphne Hunt 3. Irish jig: Nola Morriss 1, Anita Paice 2, Raoni Bryant 3. Sword dance: Nola Fleming 1, Joyce Miller 2, Elaine North 3, Highland reel: Roie Docherty 1, Anita Copeland 2, Daphne Hunt 3. Reel o Till loch, girls and boys between 14 years and 18 years (New Zealand and North Island championships); Anlla Copeland 1, Nancy Howell 2, Jovce Dick 3.
TO-DAY»B REBULTB The musical competitions at the Waikato Winter Show were continued to-day and again there was a great deal of interest taken in the proceedings. Large audiences attended all sessions and again the competition was particularly keen. The results were as follows: Elocution Recitation, boys under 14.—Recalls: William Gibbison, Garth Cullen. Calvin Woodgate and Mervyn GJhbison. highly commended. Women or men, 16 and under 21: Recalls: Miss r! Carbon, Miss Frances Hildreth. Character Recital, boy or girl under 10.—Recalls: Jack Gibbison, Beverlev Bateman. Operatic Dancing Tap Dance, under 14.—Final: Eddie Smith, 75pts, 1; Patty Alien, 73pts. 2. 14 and over.—Recalls: Nancy Howell, Anita Copeland. Skipping Dance, 12 and under: Eddie Smith, Patty Bluet. 14 and under.—Final: Nancy Howell, 1. Bagpipe music,—Mrs Helen Fitness 1; Mr R. Watt 2; Mr A. Sperry THE GATE TAKINGS THrRD DAY'S RECEIPTS Gate takings at the Waikato Wlntei Show yesterday, the third day of the exhibition, showed an increase on the receipts on each of the previous two , days. With a continuance ot line 4 weather, present indications are that ' the final figures will create fresh records. •
