MILK SHORTAGE
POSITION IN HAMILTON CONCERN OF VENDORS The serious shortage of milk in the Waikato, owing mainly to the unfavourable autumn, is causing the milk vendors in Hamilton serious concern. The Hamilton Milk Vendors’ Association has appealed to the Acling-Director-General of Health to inquire into the position. The following is the text of the letter which has been sent to Wellington by the secretary of the association : “I have been directed by my association to draw your attention to the fact that there is a very serious shortage of milk in Hamilton. There aro not sufficient supplies available from registered dairies to supply the requirements of the town. The Auckland Milk Council is drawing 2000 gallons daily from Matangi, from unregistered dairies, and has forced the price up. “I have been instructed to ask that what may be termed temporary licenses should be granted on the recommendation of the local offices of the Departments of Health and Agriculture, to enable the milk requirements of Hamilton to be met. “Auckland and Wellington appear to be able to meet their needs without restrictions. Unless some measure of relief is granted, Hamilton’s requirements cannot he met. Will you please treat this matter as urgent.” Siam’s Change of Name The Siamese Government intends to change the official name of Siam to .Muang Thai, as used by the inhabitants. says the Bangkok correspondent of the London Times.
