VIENNA BOYS’ CHOIR
LEAVES WITHOUT EARNINGS EFFECT OF RESTRICTION'S AUCKLAND, Thursday The Vienna Boys’ Choir left New Zealand without the proceeds of its tour in this country when the Aorangi sailed for Sydney last evening. Mrs H. Marsh, who supervises the business arrangements of the choir, said that they had been told they would bo able to get the money in three works. Meanwhile she had been given only five Australian £1 notes. The conductor of the choir. Dr. G. Gruber, said they had known about the exchange restrictions before reaching New Zealand and, consequently, no inconvenience was caused. They had American currency and funds were waiting in Australia.
t In any case. Dr. Gruber added, the choir was a cultural organisation and aimed merely at making ttie living and educational expenses of the boys. Consequently the proceeds of the tour were not large.
Most of the money earned by the company which recently toured the Dominion playing “The Women” has not so far been transferred and is being held. It is not yet known if the situation will affect future visits by companies and artists.
