MINISTER’S TRIBUTE (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Wednesday A suggestion that the Alaoris should be given their head in assisting in the defence of New Zealand was made by the speaker of a local body deputation which interviewed the Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, The speaker .said that history showed the Maoris were pastmasters in strategy, shrewdness and bravery. ‘‘l personally think the suggestion worthy of commendation,” said the Minister. “We all love the Maori and know of the fighting qualities he displayed in the early troubles of this country, and the Great War, and we admire the strategy, strength and gameness of the native warriors.” Mr Parry assured the deputation that the Maoris would not be overlooked by the Government in the organisation under way.
