UNIVERSITY CHAIR

STUDY OF TRANSPORTATION SUGGESTION OFFERED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The suggestion that a Chair of Transportation should be established in the University of New Zealand was made by the General Manager of Railways, Mr G. H. Mackley, speaking at Victoria University College to-day. Professor T. Hunter, principal of the college, said that if Mr Mackley knew where the necessary stipend for such a chair could be found he would guarantee its appointment in his and Mr Mackley’s lifetime. When making the suggestion, Mr Mackley said that transport was entitled to a foremost place among those specialised, subjects for which courses of study were made available by universities. He believed that such chairs were by no means uncommon in American universities.
