LONDON’S SHIPPING

OVER 1,000,000 N.R.T. During the week ended May 5, 995 vessels, representing 1,009,238 net register tons, used the Port of London. Of these 496 vessels (815,712 net register tons) were to and from Empire and foreign ports and 499 vessels (193,526 net register tons) were engaged in coastwise traffic. The arrivals included seven meat cargoes, viz: four from Australia and three from South America, comprising 48,000 carcases of lamb and mutton, 124,000 quarters of beef, quantities of pork, rabbits and sundries. Delegates to the annual conference of the National Association of Juvenile Employment and Welfare Officers visited the Port of London recently. Among the points visited were the chilled meat berth in the Royal Victoria Dock, the Tobacco Warehouses, and the drydock and entrance lock of King George V Dock.
