SECURITY PAYMENTS FINAL DAY NOW JUNE 15TH SUPPLIES OF FORMS EXHAUSTED Owing to most post offices throughout the country, including the Hamilton Chief Post Office, having exhausted their supplies of forms, social security and income tax forms, the time for payment of social security charges has been extended to June 15. The final day for the payment of the levy of 5s under the Act was yesterday, and the new date will not apply to that charge. The period in which application for exemption may be made is from to-day until June 7. Till that date fresh supplies of taxation forms will not be available.
Since the beginning of the week the Chief Post Office, Hamilton, has been deluged with inquiries for forms and on Tuesday evening the supplies were exhausted. Tuesday was the heaviest day experienced at the office, standing room in front of the counters being fully taxed. A queue of more than 20 people assembled at the office before the doors opened yesterday morning, but it was possible to serve only those who had procured forms previously. Forms Wasted The wastage of forms by the public can hardly be estimated, and this fact may have been largely responsible for the exhausting of the supplies. Many people have found the forms so complicated and containing so many perplexities that it has been impossible for them to complete them correctly at the first attempt. The combining of the social security forms with the income tax forms has been the subject of much criticism, many considering this a source of wastage. Probably the majority of those who' pay social security charges do not pay income tax, and the disposal in the waste-paper basket of the latter section of the forms must have Involved a heavy printing cost.
