TROOPS STANDING BY OUTRAGES IN PALESTINE BRITISH PLAN OPPOSED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright LONDON, March 1 Troops are standing by throughout Palestine, following a fresh outbreak of terrorism, says a message from Jerusalem. Airmen, co-operating with soldiers, engaged a large Arab band on the main Acre-Salad road. Nine were killed. All the shops in Jerusalem have been closed and transport is inactive, as the result o: a partial Arab strike. The position is similar at Haifa. The police neutralised a large bomb in the Jerusalem market place. Meetings of Protest Jews are holding demonstrations in all parts of Palestine protesting against the British plan for a settlement of the problem. A number of Revisionists were arrested. Street meetings have been forbidden. The Jewish Mayor of Tel-a-viv appealed for discipline and deplored outrages. He said they were attributable to “irresponsible, conscienceless Elements.” The council of the Jerusalem Jewish community telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary, Mr Malcolm MacDonald, declaring that it will determinedly combat any proposals contrary to Britain's war-time promises. Threat by Jewish Council The Jewish National Council lias issued a manifesto threatening to withdraw its co-operation from the British Government if the latter persists in its plan to make Palestine an independent State. The manifesto rejects any scheme imposing minority status on Jew’s.
