PUTARURU BRANCH ANNt AT. I'l.nWEt! SHOW Some magnificent blooms were ~on display at the annual flower show held bv Hie Pularuru Women's Division of Hie Fanners' Union gardening circle recently. Knirics in the dahlia and cut flower 'sections were larger than last year, while the quality was improved. The champion giant dahlia, which was exhibited by Mr F. Colson, Tokoroa, was an outstanding unnamed bloom, ■grown from the exhibitor's seedling. Mrs H. Robinson, of Overdale, took the award for the champion cactus dahlia with her “John Cronin.’’ Entries in the fruit and vegetable classes were full of quality, although not quite equal numerically to last year's. Collection of vegetables. Mrs AN’. AV. King 1, Mrs M. H. Addenbrooke 2. ELSTOW BRANCH Miss E. Strange presided at the monthly meeting of the Elstow senior branch of the Women’s Division. An invitation from the Mangaiti branch to its first birthday celebration, was accepted. During the afternoon Mrs J. D. Mac Kay gave an interesting demonstration on making seagrass stools. The competitions resulted as follows: Cocoanut ice, Mrs Cox 1, Mrs Dugdale and Mrs Dugdale 2, Miss E. Strange 3; plate of 6 tomatoes, Mrs Johnson 1, Mrs Rogers and Mrs Cox 2, Miss Strange 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Burt and F. M. Strange and Miss AV. McCormick. Junior Branch The Elstow junior division held a dance in the local hall to celebrate its sixth birthday. A merry assemblage danced to music supplied by Mrs Crowe’s orchestra and extras were played by Miss P. Blackford. Two novelty dances and a spot waltz were features of the evening. The winners were Mr and Mrs F. "V. Flowerday, Miss Joan Nicol and partner and Miss Joyce Campbell and partner. The supper was served by the Junior Division girls, after which the president of the branch, Miss P.
