Desperate House-Hunters Postmen, milk roundsmen, tradesmen who travel daily a regular “beat” have been offered in Wellington subsidies of up to £5 for information leading to the house-hunter obtaining a satisfactory dwelling or a few shillings a week to “ keep an eye open.” Another common expedient, particularly among owners of motor-cars, is to drive about, the suburbs, calling upon the small local storekeepers, who may be expected to have a more or less intimate knowledge of the district. If this fails, it at any rate gives the seeker an opportunity of discovering any “To Let ” notices in the neighbourhood. Loan of £15,000 An urgent telegram from the Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, promised that arrangements would be made for the State Advances Corporation to lend the South Canterbury Electric-power Board £15,000 on a 10year term and a 20-year table at 3* per cent. An announcement of this was made by the chairman, Mr G Dash, at a special meeting of the board. It was decided to accept the offer, but to ask the Government for a statement of yearly payments under a 10-year and 20-year terminating fund, and to ask whether the board might choose one or the other.
