HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES
AGREEMENT REACHED DETAILS OF CONDITIONS (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday Complete agreement was reached at a conciliation council meeting h-eld yesterday to discuss an award for clerical and allied workers employed by hospital boards. Hours were fixed at 40 for a five-day week, but the scheme of work arranged was placed on an elastic basis to enable essential hospital work to be carried on day and night. The scale of wages agreed up on for male employees ranged from £GS a year during the first six months of employment to £312 a year in Lhe 11th year and thereafter. For females the commencing salary was fixed at £52 a year, with increases to £169 in the eighth year and thereafter. The agreement was stated not to place any restriction upon employees being paid more than £6 a week.
Holidays were fixed at a fortnight every year, with the addition of statutory holidays. If a worker is employed on a statutory holiday, another day must be given later or added to the annual holiday. Employees receiving more than £350 are to be exempt from the provisions of the agreement. The wage provisions are to-operate as from February 1, and the agreement will continue in force until January 31, 1940.
