QUALITY STOCK
OTOROHANGA SHOW DAIRY SECTIONS PRAISED RECORD FIXTURE FOR SOCIETY (Times Special Reporter.) OTOROHANGA. Tuesday. Favoured with ideal weather the sixteenth annual show of the Otorohanga Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held at the Island Reserve yesterday, proved an outstanding success. Not only did the gate-takings reach record figures but the stock exhibited was, in the estimation of the judges, of particularly fine quality and spoke well for the breeders in the district. The crowd began to assemble early in the morning and at the end of the day £lls had been collected at the gates compared with £lO6 taken last year. A welcome to the visitors was extended by the president of the association. Mr G. D. Hall, who stated that the large attendance was a gratifying tribute to the efforts of the executive. He expressed appreciation of the support of the exhibitors and complimented them on the high standard of their entries, while he also thanked the judges, many of whom had travelled long distances, for their assistance. Equestrian Competitions Although entries in the horse section were not as numerous as last year, the quality of the animals left little to he desired. Most of the wellknown breeds were represented and earned favourable comment from the judge. The equestrian competitions were particularly interesting and amused considerable enthusiasm amongst the spectators, who were entertained with the ring attractions for practically the whole day. Greater entries than last year were received in the dairy cattle section, whch the judges stated was well up to general standard. Mr G. H. Bell (Ohura). the adjudicator in the Jersey division, slated that in his lot an excellent class of yearlings was exhibited. The champion bull scored mainly in breeding while the aged bull and cow classes were particularly strong. In the opinion of Mr J. C. Wallace, judge of the Ayrshire breed, if local breeders continued to improve their stock as they had in the last few years they would before long make their mark in the major snows of the Dominion. The bacon class in the pig section was favourably commented on by the judge, Mr H. E. Fieldhouse (Palmerston North). He stated that the standard was good throughout and was most encouraging for the' future of the exhibition. Home Industries Excellent entries were received in the home industries division and the judges were set a hard task with such a fine range of products. In the opinion of the needlework adjudicator the standard in that section was outstanding and revealed definite ability. Results:— List of Champions Draught Entire.—Reserve: S.
