MINISTER AT TAUPIRI
REQUESTS FROM RATEPAYERS OVERHEAD BRIDGE PROBLEM (Special Reporter) TAUPIRI, Tuesday On arrival at Taupiri this afternoon the Minister of Public Works, ihe lion. R. Semple, was met by a deputation from the Taupiri Ratepayers' Association, headed by the president, Mr F. H. Durbridge, which had a number of requests to ma-ke. After discussing the widening of one of the roads leading to the overhead bridge, the deputation made a request for the footway on the bridge to be fenced in. About 120 school children had to use the bridge daily, but when any stock came across the children were obliged to climb down a steep bank to get out of the way. After inspecting the bridge the Minister gave an undertaking that the footway would be properly fenced. The easing of a corner near the
bridge was another matter which occupied ihe attention of the deputation, and after hearing an explanation the Minister instructed Mr W. Hall-Jones, district engineer of the Public Works Department, to do what was possible to improve the position. The draining of a piece of swamp land near the town was another request. the deputation stating that it was a breeding place for mosquitoes and a danger to the health of the residents. The Waikato County engineer. Mr A. A. Woodward, slated that the matter was already in hand.
