SLACK SALE
STOCK AT FRANKTON LIFELESS BEEF MARKET A lifeless market was experienced for fat cattle at the Frankton stock sale to-day when smaller entries were forward. A light entry of bullocks included several pens of attractive heavy weight sorts, but buyers were apathetic and values tended slightly lower. To-day’s top price was £l2 15s, with other good pens changing hands from £ll 5s to £l2. Light cattle generally made from £8 to £lO 12s 6d. A small entry of cows and heifers also met a quiet demand, hut prime heifers were occasionally in good request. Boner cattle and calves were also slower of sale, and values were frequently lower. A moderate entry of fat sheep was on offer, and again there was little enthusiasm about the market, although late quotations were usually repeated. The. limit for wethers was 21s 3d against. 20s 3d last week, while fat ewes made from 8s 9d to 10s 9d, with an occasional pen of maiden ewes realising up to 15s. The same money as last week was .also given for lambs. Although quotations remained the same, competition for fat pigs appeared to be a little stronger. Light-weight pigs, particularly those required for finishing, sometimes made slightly better money. Quotations: Medium prime steers, £ll 2s Gd to £l2 15s, lighter £9 10s to £lO 12s 6d. smalt £B. to £9 10s: prime heifers. £6 10s to £8 10s: fat cows, £4 5s to £6.
