BRUTAL ASSAULT
SALT RUBBED IN WOUNDB ____ REMANDED FOR OBSERVATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Tuesday A frail boy of 13 who wept continuously was a pathetic figure in the Police Court when his father, Noah Gilbert Hopkins, motor-lorry driver, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting him. The police said besides thrashing the boy defendant got his other boy to bring salt which defendant rubbed In the wounds. The police admitted defendant had been having trouble with his boys hut said it was a very brutal kind of assault. Replying to the magistrate, defendant said he did not want the boys to get into prison. “If it is going to make them any better you can give me as many years in gaol as you like,” be added. The magistrate remanded Hopkins until Friday and ordered that he be medically examined.
