HAMILTON CRICKET

SENIORS SCORE HEAVILY WEST, BADELEY AND JORDAN CENTURY TO B GRADE PLAYER Scores of 87, 73. and 65, by J. G. West, 5. A. R. Badelev and P. Jordan respectively, in the Senior A games, and a century by C. Day, of Frankton United, in the Senior B series, were features of the cricket matches played in Hamilton on Saturday. Conditions on the whole favoured batsmen, and in both Senior A matches the scoring was heavy. Hamilton East made 230 in the game with Hamilton, while Old Boys declared against Claudelands with 264 on the board for nine wickets. Claudelands took no risks and played out time without loss, but Hamilton were less fortunate and had two wickets down for 48. Day, with 122. which included 18 fours and one six. had the distinction of compiling the highest total in senior

cricket this season. West, in his best innings for some time, looked like reaching the coveted century, only to go in attempting to hit out at a good ball from M. Lyon, He played a patient innings, and although chances were given he blended a good array of attacking and defensive shots. In the same game IL Clough showed a return to form with a useful 38. After starting slowly for a batsman of his type, Badelev gave the bowlers a trying time, scoring with good placements. With Jordan, who. once settled, was very forceful, Badelev put on over 100 for the third wicket. Early in both Senior A games the bowlers were getting some assistance from the wicket, but later in the afternoon it appeared to play easier, and it was usually when batsmen attempted to force the pace that the bowlers were rewarded. Keeping his usual steady length. M. Lyon secured five of Old Boys’ wickets for 81 runs, while in the other game Pedrotti. with five wickets for 47, troubled the later batsmen.
