DESTRUCTION OF BALLOONS FREAK STORM IN ENGLAND TEN MINUTES OF DARKNESS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 27, 11.55 a.m.) LONDON, Feb. 26 A solitary lightning flash during a thunderstorm struck a winch, ran up a steel cable, and brought down in flames one of six balloons of the Stanmore barrage. The balloon fell on top of a hanger, damaging it, but nobody was injured. Another balloon was similarly destroyed between Chigwell and Buckhurstshill. lightning Ignited a building that ■was being constructed at Hendon. It was a freak storm, being followed by ten minutes of darkness and pausing temporary floods.
