WOMEN'S WORLD

INSTITUTE MEETINGS AT MANAWARU At the February meeting of the Manawaru Women's Institute, Mrs J. Waugh presided over a satisfactory attendance of members. * The thought for the month was “If it is not right, do not do it; if it is not true, do not say it." Mrs Waugh reported on the Group Committee meeting which Mrs Hurlirnan and she had attended as delegates. It was decided that the next group meeting take the form of a picnic to be held at Springdale on March 1. when the Manawaru Institute will be responsible for the community singing. Mrs Waugh stated she had been in communication with the secretary of the English link and read a most interesting letter from her. It was decided lo make a request for a link, Mrs Waugh to be correspondent. Mrs A. Davidson read a W.E.A. lecture on “The Economic Position of New Zealand Women." which was greatly appreciated. The roll call was “Suggestions for a new programme" and a number- of ideas were brought forward. The competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom in Hip garden. Mrs Huston 1. Mrs K. Hughes 2. Mrs J. Waugh 3; gooseberry jam, Miss M. Hughes 1, Mrs A. Neevc' 2, Mrs K. Hughes 3. r J he hostesses for the afternoon: were Mesdames Carmichael and Hodgson. AT TE UKU The Feb>uary meeting of the Te Uku Women's Institute was held in the Memorial Hall recently. Mrs Moore presiding over a good'attendance of members. The motto of the month was “True hope is swift an flies with swallow's wings. Kings it makes Gods and meaner creatures Kings.” Final arrangements were made in connection with the annual flower show, which will take place on March A cure for sunburn was the subject for the roil call. A competition, arranged by Miss C. Gibbison was won by Mrs Silcock. Competitions in the roll of honour resulted as follows: Bowl of French marigolds, Miss C. McDonald 1, Mrs R. Johnstone 2, sponge roll, Miss I. McDonald 1, Mrs De’Ath 2; best bloom in garden, Miss J. Mead 1, Mrs Fealherstonhaugh 2. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames Cleland and Dc’Ath and Misses De'Ath and Lofroth, AT TAPAPA - i The February meeting of the Tapapa Women's Institute was held at the residence of Mrs S. C. Houston and presided over by the president, Mrs G. McHardy. There was a good attendance of members and nominations were received for the committee for the forthcoming year. A paper prepared by Mrs T. Cochrane dealing with the earlv days of Tapapa was read by Mrs' Houston, after which members related incidents dealing with pioneering experiences. The roll call was “My favourite summer resort and why.” Competitions resulted as follows: Plate of pikelets, Mrs Mcllardv l Mrs W. Barker 2; jar of Jelly, "Mrs Fuller 1, Mrs R. Cochrane 2; best bloom for month, Mrs Houston i, Mrs McHardy 2.

Hostesses were Mesdames G. W Major and R. F. Rutledge.
