AUCKLAND SHOW
SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE ENTRIEB FROM WAIKATO HIGH STANDARD OF QUALITY (Special Reporter) AUCKLAND, Friday Excelling the standard of previous fixtures in the quality and number of the exhibits in many sections, the annual show of the Auckland Metropolitan Agricultural and Pastoral Association. was opened at the Epsom Showgrounds to-day. There was a good attendance of the public for a first day, the judging rings being thronged with interested spectators.
In the stock sections there were many XX'aikato entries, the competition in some of the dairy cattle classes being particularly strong. All breeds of pedigree cattle, apart from Ayrshires, were well represented, while in the horse section both light and draught, animals were paraded in large numbers. Indicating the increased interest in pig production throughout the Auckland Province, the entries of both pedigree and fat pigs showed a marked increase and the show accommodation for these classes was severely taxed. Among the entries were several imported animals. The sheep section was also strongly supported, entries including a number of Royal Show winners. . The ring competitions have also attracted increased entries, and in some of the events there were as many as 36 competitors. CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS Aberdeen Angus Cow. —Mr J. R. Self’s entry.
