RACING AT TE AROHA
SPLENDID F.ELDS ENGAGED
(By “Martian” )
Follow ing are the fields with a review of the prospects
Esteem raced well over the Taranaki circuit during the holidays, getting up in the last few strides to take the measure of Airam in the Ohura Hurdles on the first day of the Stratford fixture. Stansted will be making a reappearance after a spell, but he shaped well tiie other morning and is not without a chance. Celtic Lad and Pyrenees are good prospects, the latter prevailing from a useful field at the Ellerslie mid-summer meeting last month. If rain falls in the interim her prospects will be enhanced. Kittle has been shaping like an improver in her recent trials and on her showing at Matamata she looks to have an excellent chance in this company. Sinking Fund and Chikara are the best of the others, but indications are the best supported will be— ESTEEM KITTLE STANSTED 12.38
British Nation won attractively over the distance at Matamata and on that showing will have to be treated with respect. However, Odtaa’s impressive running here points to his holding the former safe and he will need only to reproduce that fine form of Te Rapa to take a power of beating. Mintlaw was a recent winner and has since been working well. Midland appeals over Hunter’s Rose and this consistent member of the Tutchen establishment will be assured of a strong following in the betting. Ilessketoon and Veritable are likely improvers and Star Yaal has been shaping in credit- / able style on the tracks. Gamos and Kotaki Acre are not without prospects, while another likely sort in Rival should add interest to proceedings. The final figures may point to the ohances of— ODTAA MIDLAND RIVAL ■L2O
Silver Stick should be improved with his race on the first day here and may be seen to better advantage tomorrow. Foxmond, too, who was a creditable third in his first day engapoment at Te Rapa, should be all the better for the race. La Vie has been galloping attractively on the tracks and her form this term entitles her to every consideration. Lady Fox is an improver with a chance and the speedy track worker. Esquire, should add fnterest t > proceedings. Our Jean was finishing on in her engagement on the first day .»f the Waikato meeting and may be seen to advantage to-morrow. Brazen B fid is another improving prospect and Mayfair appears to be on the upgrade. The public may sum u u for — FOXMOND LA VIE BRAZEN BOLD
The Cup field of is a splendid one and promises to be a great contest in which fancies will assume a generous ranf-e. Hound Up is a proved performer over the distance and with all his poundage he is sure to command a firm following. Valamito should be benefited with racing at Te Rapa, but Llangollen, if this be her mission, will be preferred. She has [U is t, brilliant mare, who may emulate st seasoi Malagigi looks a picture and may be seen to better advantage than was the st S Lady MonI her claims and Master Brierly indicated a t th \\ ' kato meeting that he is by n 0 m< in» i spent 1 ght Scfiland is } n winning form and the impressive nature of his Rotorua and Te Rapa
SEVENTEEN IN £I,OOO CUP SCOTLAND IN WINNING VEIN THE PROSPECTS REVIEWED
Splendid field- are carded for the opening day, tomorrow, of the Ie Aroha Jockey Club, and with visiting horses and the best of provincial talent engaged keen racing should he provided. The £IOOO Herries Memorial Cup has drawn the well-balanced field of seventeen runners while in the open sprint fifteen have survived the scratching pen. The course is reported to be in splendid order and betting will be on the win and place system.
achievements points to his being one of the hardest to dispose of. Gay Rose, De Friend. Kena and Jonathan will all have their measure of support, while of the light-weights, Golden Sheila and Glen Abb make most appeal. There should be support forthcoming for— SCOTLAND LLANGOLLEN LADY MONTANA
Kathbella has a solid poundage and there are others further down the handicap that may be preferred. Orwere, after his defeat at the hands of Lexden the first day here, ran right away from the opposition on the latter day of the fixture and in his present condition appeals as an excellent prospect. He may turn the tables on Lexden to-morrow. Dragon Moth, High Delight and Haile Boy will claim a following, while Sliver Eagle and Penzance are handily placed to give of their best. Sir Robin is a useful performer and Trevace, Kenneth Robert, Bronze Step, Pasture and Bronwen are all assured of a measure of support. In an interesting race preference may be shown for— ORWERE LEXDEN KATHBELLA
Royal Appellant showed up at the Waikato fixture as also did Rollicker, who is looking all the better for the racing he lias had in recent months. Sergia, too. looks improved and may do better to-morrow. Day Wind is at home over the distance and Rulette and Glen Abb, who have been working attractively, should make a bold showing. Galilee is on the upgrade and Gay Rebel and Jayola, who showed to advantage at the recent Waikato meeting, are lightweight prospects with a chance. The prime fancies may include — SERGIA JAYOLA ROLLICKER
Balinavar is a useful customer and Loombination should give a forward account of his capabilities. Coronation, .the unlucky horse of the Waikato meeting, however, should account for the majority. He is not unduly burdened and his finishing run in the Hack Cup at Te Rapa on Monday will not be overlooked. Aynho is another whose recent running draws attention to her claims. She won the Thames Hack Cup in solid style, finishishing on from a seemingly hopeless position to win attractively and on that showing she appeals as a good prospect. Te Morehu may improve on Te Rapa running, while Beeswing, Bonstar and Royal Abb will add interest. Indications are that the favourites may be — CORONATION AYNHO TE MOREHU
Llangollen, if reserved, would not fail to make her presence felt. Gay Chou has been racing prominently of late and is sure to go well, while Suleiman, after his success at the Auckland mid-summer meeting, will have a host of friends. Royal Bache-
lor won this event last season and in his present condition may prove one of the hardest to beat. Palustre Maori Song anrl Bachelor King should give a good account of themselves, while further down the handicap useful sorts in Mon Acre, Tosh and Te Poto all appeal as likely to cause an upset in popular calculations. The betting lists may be headed by— SULEIMAN ROYAL BACHELOR TE POTO
