Smith also being preThe Military Secretary to the GovernorGeneral wrote expressing appreciation of the Te Aroha arrangements in connection with the recent visit of Lord and Lady Galway. The Transport Department wrote stating the -New Zealand Road Safety Council would consider proposals as to whether it is in the interests of safety to impose restrictions on the use or motor-cycles. It was decided to reply favouring restrictions. Land Development A letter was read from the Labour Department stating that single men now engaged by local authorities under Scheme 13 would be transferred to land development and forestry work under Tull pay, and asking for a return or those at present engaged. It was decided to return the particulars requested. State Houses The Government Housing Department notified that L»0 residences were practically completed at Ruakaka, and asked the council to facilitate the postal numbers of the buildings, the double houses to have two numbers. This was agreed to. Postal Accommodation Relative to the offer of the council to allow its committee room to be used by the Postal Department during the term required for the erection or additions to the local Post Office, the Department wrote stating the Public Works Department would prepare a report on the cost of adapting the premises for requirements.— The letter was received. An application from the secretary of the Roy Scouts Troop for the use or Herries Memorial Park on which to hold a Scouts’ jamboree on March II was granted. it was decided to impose the 10 per cent penalty on rates unpaid artcr March 31 next.
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
COMPETITOR FDR CUP (Special to Times) TE AR-OHA, Thursday. For competition between the first-'year members of the Te \roha, Tauranga, Thames. Paeroa and Waihi St. John Ambulance Brigades, a cup has been presented by Mr Arthur Ross, or Waihi. The » trophy is to be competed for every three months, and is to be won outright at the end of the year by the member gaining most points during the twelve months.
