FIREMEN INJURED
BLAZE IN TIMBER FACTORY STOCKS AND BUILDING SAVED (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Thursday Two firemen were hurt and a third narrowly escaped injury in fighting a fire which broke out at the Taupo Timber Company’s factory at Newmarket
early this morning. As the result of tire-fighters’ efforts the blaze was quickly suppressed and the main building and big stocks of Umber in the adjoining yard saved. The firemen who suffered injury were Messrs P. Gavin and I). Randall, who received cuts from falling glass. The fire was discovered by a constable and the origin was the boiler-house at the rear <• f the factory where a hopper of d-ry shavings ignited. Over 1,000,000; feet of timber were stored immediately behind the scene of the fire. DESTRUCTION OF HOUSE OUTBREAK AT lIERRIESYILLE (By Telegraph. —Special in Times! TE AROIIA. Thursday At seven last evening the fire syren sounded an alarm and a large number of people quickly gathered i:i Whitaker Street from which could be seen flames issuing from a closely-built block at ITerrie-sville. The tire brigade was quickly on the scene but the tlames had a strong hold and within half-an-hour the six-roomed residence of Mrs F. Goldsbury was burned to the ground.
At the time of the outbreak a number of firemen were practising in Ilerries Park in view of the Wanganui demonstration but they were quickly on the scene of the tire. Few articles of furniture were saved.
