1000 APPLY

AUSTRALIAN BUILDERS COMING TO NEW ZEALAND CALIBBE UP TO STANDARD (United Press Assn. — Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 23, 3.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 23 Over 1000 building tradesmen have made application for jobs in New Zealand. Mr J. Hodgens, M.P. for Palmerston North, said he is satisfied that the men's general calibre is well up to the standard required. So many have applied that the practicability of chartering a special steamer to take them to New Zetland is being considered. Mr Hodgens said he has found that berths will not be available on a steamer leaving Sydney on March 10 and only a limited number can be booked on the steamers leaving on March 10, 11 and 17. A cablegram will be sent to Mr Savage to-day explaining the position.
