DEPUTATION FROM ALLIANCE SENIOR CHAPLAIN APPOINTED (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday Acting on suggestions in reports from commissions throughout the Dominion on the state of the Church, the Methodist conference to-day carried a number of resolutions proposing ways in which the effectiveness of the work in circuits could be increased. Stating that the New Zealand Alliance was the churches, a deputation from the alliance appealed for wholehearted support in its work. Speakers emphasised that the conference resolutions were a waste of time if not supported by the active assistance of the churches. The Rev. H. T. Peat, of Upper Hutt, was appointed senior chaplain of the Methodist Church. The conference protested against the holding of weekend military bivouacs when training was carried out. on Sunday. Tributes to the work of the Revs. T. A. Pybus, W. Wills. W. J. Oxbrow. A. J. Seamer. \V. 11. Speer and C. A. j Foston, who were retiring from the 1 ministry, were paid by delegates, par- | ticular reference being made to the I j services of Mr Seamer as superinten- | ; dent of home and Maori missions for j j about 17 years.
