PROFESSIONALS MEET J. WEIR’S BEST AGGREGATE (Special to Times) ROTORUA, Wednesday The annual New Zealand professional golfers' tournament began at Arikikapakapa to-day with a 36-holes medal handicap for the EFromford Cup, as a preliminary to the start of the 72holes Rotorua provincial championship to-morrow. In the morning round in particular many of the players found trouble in the bunkers. While playing from the back tee the sulphur chasms at the ninth proved the downfall of the majority. The best round of the morning was that of J. Weir, Te Awamutu, who returned a net 67. Although he was five strokes worse in the afternoon round his 139 aggregate was the best of the day and he therefore won the cup. A. J. Shaw did a gross -score of 70 in the morning and in -the afternoon 69, but, playing on a handicap of plus two, he was only in fourth position at the end of the day. In the afternoon round two scores of 68 were returned by T. S. Galloway, Rotorua, and W. All-bon. Auckland. Galloway played a very bad round of 77 in the morning and his recovery was of little benefit to him. A. Murray, Auckland, holder of the championship title, also played badly today and was well down the list with an aggregate of 150.
