OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM THOMAS LILL (By Telegr*"" —p-«c« ASHBURTON, Tuesday The death has occurred of Mr William Thomas Lill. aged 92, a resident of the county since December 16, 1867. He was ex-chairman of the Ashburton County Council and Hospital Board was one of the only two lay presidents of the New Zealand Methodist Conference and never missed a quarterly meeting of the circuit for 50 years. Mr Lill was also a member of the High School Board, the Technical High School Board an dthe Power Board and ex-chairman of the Ashburton Dairy company. He was an ardent temperance worker. Up had been farming in the Willowby district for 49 *yeai-s. MR ANDREW BAIN (By Tel*®-™*—tw« INVERCARGILL. Tuesday The death has occurred of Mr Andrew Bain, in his 83rd year. Mr Bain was & prominent citizen of Invercargill, having served ! wo terms as Mayor and 20 years as a councillor. He was well known as a building contractor in his earlier life and later devoted 40 years to the service of Southland local bodies. Deceased left Glasgow in 1577 for the BlnfT. in the ship Marlborough. He relurnpd home and then came back again to New Zealand in another vessel to setle here. He was a member of the Harbour Board for many years and occupied the position of chairman for several terms. He was also connected with other organisations, on which his wide knowledge and good judgment was invaluable. On his BOtli birthday he was presented with an illuminated address as a tribute *o his public service.
